Traffic Exchanges

Quite a few people ask about traffic exchanges and their effectiveness in getting more visitors to a website. The answers range from "totally useless" to "awesome results!". When you are first looking at them as a means to inject more activity to your site, they can be pretty intimidating at first glance. I have tried a few of the more well-known exchanges, and can give my viewpoint from past experience.

The first thing one needs to take into acccount before signing up for one of these programs, is what is the focus of your site, and what kind of visitor do you want to attract? If you are offering a work from home business opportunity, or trying to get signups for your internet marketing newsletter, then they will probably be fairly effective.

If the site in question is more niched, or not of an IM nature, then I personally think your time could be spent better elsewhere. Most exchanges require that you sit in front of your monitor and surf some pages - this can take anywhere from 15 minutes to hours - depending on how many points you are trying to accrue. The more surfing points you accrue, the more times your site will be shown to other surfers.

There is a system that has been fine-tuned by those who make their bread and butter from these types of sites. If you follow what they have to say, then you might find your success rate, for whatever your goal is, increasing.

To fully take advantage of the benefits that a traffic exchange membership may bring you, follow along the guidelines below.
